Kenya: Iran and Kenya Discuss Strengthening Ties
Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi, is visiting three African nations as part of a diplomatic tour, and his first stop was to meet up with Kenyan president, William Ruto.
Raisi is currently on a mission – his first to Africa in over a decade – to improve his country’s international image; he travelled to Kenya on Wednesday, 12 July, to discuss “critical strategic partner” matters with Ruto, as well as to sign several trade agreements pertaining to information technology, fisheries, livestock products and investment promotion.
The trip to Kenya was considered as a “turning point”, according to Raisi, before the 62-year-old statesman then travelled to Uganda later in the day to shore up more support from President Yoweri Museveni.
Raisi is expected to then travel to meet President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Zimbabwe today, Thursday 13 July, to complete this African tour of countries which also happen to have US sanctions against them.
